These delightful beads are black glass with distinctive heart-shaped surface decorations in red and yellow. This is a method by which thin threads of colored glass, called "stringer" is carefully layed over the background glass and melted in. The area is heated only to the point where the glass will move. Then a pick is raked across the stripes and the color is dragged along to create the pattern. In this case, a heart-shaped pattern. These beads also have a nice satiny matte finish to really show off the colors. They measure 16mm in length and 13mm in width. Each are hand made, so there is some variation from bead to bead. They come from Firozibad India, famed for its glassworks. Each bead is 30 cents.
